FAQs

I'm interested in hosting an international student. What exactly do I need to do?

Make sure they have a room of their own. You'll also need to feed them and drive them to and from school. A rewarding balance comes from treating them like a member of the family AND making sure they get the privacy they need. Most of all, enjoy this special time- you'll learn so much about each other's culture.

What if the student needs to see a doctor? Am I expected to pay for their medical care?

If they get sick, you'll probably need to drive them to the doctor. However, you won't have to pay for their care. All International Students have their own medical insurance. If you have more questions about Guardianship contact us.

How old will my student be?

Your student will most likely be attending high school. However, King's Homestay Institute also occasionally places junior high students.

Will I be paid for hosting a student?

We send a monthly stipend from $800-1,000 a month for the duration of the school year. We're basically offsetting the slight increase in your grocery and utility bill.

When is the best time to apply? How do I start?

We accept applications between January and July. We usually make our hosting decisions between May and July. Click here to fill out the paperwork. Then email your application to info@kingshi.org. You can also fax it to 408-978-1489.

I applied as a host, but didn't receive a match. What happened?

If you passed the application process, then there probably wasn't a good match at this time. We're blessed to have an enormous pool of families who apply each year. Sometimes there are simply not enough students studying abroad to match each family.
