For Host Families
Every year, King's Homestay Institute matches international students with caring families in the South Bay community. For nine months, students from Asia attend private schools while living with an American family.
A homestay experience forges strong relationships and provides incredible educational opportunities. We've found that both international and local families greatly expand their cultural awareness.
Are you motivated to help young people excel? Do you have children who would benefit from extended contact with another culture? You may be just the family we're looking for.
Who makes a good host?
Many of our families have a background in education. Some, in fact, teach at the very schools the international students will be attending. Others are professionals from Silicon Valley who enjoy promoting and experiencing positive cultural development. All, however, are upstanding members of the community with a proven record of integrity.
Imagine letting your child leave home and board a plane to live with another family for a year. Wouldn't you want to know that the host family will provide a safe, warm and educational environment? We honor the trust that international families are placing in us. For that reason, we conduct a thorough application process.
Our Process
King's Homestay Institute dutifully screens both hosts and students. Our goal is to ensure that each homestay experience is rewarding for all parties. After the initial application, we do an interview and background checks. Several factors indicate a successful match:
- Comfortable home. Do you have a separate room for the student? Will the student be afforded sufficient privacy?
- Positive values. Do you enjoy helping others succeed? Do you enjoy spending time as a family? Are you active in your community?
- Stable environment. Do you have enough time to spend with the student? For example, most nights do you have dinner as a family?
- Glowing references. Can you pass your background checks with flying colors? Are you well respected by your peers?
